1943 – Louis served in the United States 8th airborne division during WWII. He specialized as a ball turret gunner. During his service, his plane was shot down in the English Channel resulting in severe injuries to many of the men in the aircraft. Louis luckily survived, and spent 2 years in an English hospital relearning how to walk after being injured during the crash.

1960 – Louis moved to Maryland and started working at Bob Davidson Ford. He worked his way up to being the General Manager. He served for 25 years and really enjoyed his time. He was awarded several awards for being a top 3% salesman in the country

1978 – One day, Louis was at his home in Glen Arm and at that time had hired Chem Lawn to treat his lawn. He realized after watching them perform a service, they did not do a great job and for that matter, did not have any competitors! Louis then left Bob Davidson, he partnered with professors from the University of Maryland and started Pro Grass Inc. A true entrepreneur!

1979 – Pro Grass Lawn and Ornamental Care was born out of his garage.

1980 – Louis rented commercial warehouse space on Greenspring Drive for office space and a warehouse for the trucks. Partnering with a couple investors to get the business running, Louis assembled a crew of 4 technicians servicing the Timonium/Towson area.

1981 – Louis provided the opportunity for his son, Anthony Neil, to attend the University of Maryland in College Park to study Agronomy. Upon graduation in 1985, he was positioned for continued growth of his father’s vision and belief.

1990 – Pro Grass experiences continued growth through the leadership of Louis and the help of his son Neil. More technicians, more help in the office, leads to more happy customers!

1993 – Neil Cariello receives a civilian certificate of honor for the emergency care that he gave to a woman who ran out of her house with her clothes in a ball of flame. Neil was treating a lawn at the time and sprung into action to help a neighbor in need.

2000 – Neil serves on baltimore county leadership

2003 – Louis Cariello unexpectedly passed away and at which time the ownership and management was passed on to his son, Anthony Cariello.
Diane Cariello, wife of Neil, was an RN and Nurse Recruiter working for Mercy Medical Center until she became a full time mom. When she was ready to return to the workforce, she left her career in nursing to assist Neil in the growth of Pro Grass.

2008 – Market Crashed. Despite the country struggling during the crash of 08’, Pro Grass continued to have positive growth.

2015 – Pro Grass moved locations down the street to 1941 Greenspring Dr. Larger office and warehouse to continue growing. More customers means more technicians, products, and office staff. This new building is exactly what Pro Grass needed at the time.

2019 – Pro Grass hits 40 years in the industry. A large accomplishment for everyone involved in the business. With hundreds of years of combined experience, Pro Grass is becoming a leading lawn care provider in Maryland.

2020 – Covid. Despite the world shutting down, Pro Grass was deemed an essential business and was allowed to continue working through the pandemic to service our customers. With some many people working from home and walking through their neighborhood (and seeing how good the ProGrass lawns look), we had record growth that spring.

2024 – Pro Grass is still growing, looking forward towards the future. Whether that means another location to keep up with growth, or continuing to grow our current market, we have nothing but a bright future ahead of Pro Grass.
